Pure Balance Pilates & Physiotherapy

Instructor Profiles

Lyn Mclaren
Studio Director & Clinical Pilates Teacher
I am a fully qualified and insured Pilates teacher and member of The Register of Exercise Professionals and have been teaching Pilates for over 13 years.

My original training was in 2003 with MK Pilates. I later went on to enhance my Pilates mat teaching by completing training with Body Control Pilates.

In addition to my Pilates Career, my background is in Nursing. Following 2 degrees and 13 years of experience in various areas of the Nursing field, i decided to leave nursing and follow my dream of teaching Pilates full time. In January 2013 i set up and opened Pure Balance Pilates and have never looked back!

As part of my first degree in Nursing i studied biomedical science and pharmacology – This training and subsequent nursing experience gave me an extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology which has been invaluable in my Pilates career.

To further enhance this knowledge in the Pilates field i have undertaken numerous clinical pilates training courses since opening the studios.

At Pure Balance i teach Pilates Studio equipment sessions on a private basis in addition to mat classes. My equipment training was undertaken with Pilates Training Solutions – an osteopathic led pilates training organisation http://pilatestrainingsolutions.co.uk

I have completed Clinical Pilates Training with Modern Pilates – a physiotherapy led Training Organisation – http://pfetraining.co.uk

I have also completed a course on pilates for osteoporosis with APPI – The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute – a clinically led pilates training organisation http://ausphysio.com.

Later this year I will be further enhancing my expertise in the use of pilates studio equipment as I embark on a 4 part module with APPI.

At Pure Balance Pilates, continued professional development is fundamental to our teaching. As such we continuously update our knowledge and expertise in Pilates through the completion of relevant courses.

Kate Wilcock
Pilates Teacher
I qualified as a Level 3 Pilates instructor in December 2011 with Body Control Pilates, London. Since then i have completed many different courses with Body Control including Intermediate Mat, Pilates for Dancers and Pilates Arc to name a few. My proudest achievement to date was completing and passing the Advanced Mat exam giving me Master Teacher status in Matwork Pilates.

My Dance background has given me a real advantage with Pilates teaching and i prides herself on giving clients flowing classes which demonstrate different sequences of movement, co-ordination and stamina as well as building core strength and stability.

Since joining Lyn at Pure Balance Pilates in May 2014, i feel i have really grown as a teacher in terms of my experience in teaching clients with various different conditions. This has given me a high level of confidence with planning and modifications of exercises in all classes.

Being a member of the Pure Balance teaching team i have had the opportunity to train with two different Pilates associations. I have completed diagnostic training with Modern Pilates on the Shoulder, Spine, Hip and Knee and participated on the Swiss Ball course. I have also completed the Pilates for Osteoporosis course with APPI.

In the very near future i hope to begin training on the Reformer and start the process of teaching Pilates on the Studio Equipment.

In September 2015 i was one of the first to qualify as a DDMIX (Diverse Dance Mix) instructor in the North West and teach Dance Fitness locally as part of my weekly schedule. www.diversedancemix.com

Debbie Hall
Pilates Teacher & Remedial Massage Therapist
Coming from a background in working with children and young people, I have attended Pure Balance Pilates from its very beginnings. Being amazed at how it helped me personally, I trained and qualified as a Level 3 Pilates teacher with HFE Ltd in 2014. My love of anatomy led me to further my knowledge with a Diploma in Remedial Massage at the Northern Institute of Massage in Manchester. My approach is a holistic one and I believe Pilates can help us all understand the workings of our amazing bodies.

My interests include Reiki, walking the hills around Mow Cop with my 4 dogs and riding my horse. Riding and Pilates really go well together. Along with my colleagues, I really enjoy our training sessions. I’ve completed many including PIlates on the ball, spinal conditions, k taping and hot stone massage therapy amongst many. I strive to make my classes interesting and fun as I believe this is the key to really enjoying our exercise and get the most out of life.

Sarah Jane Lynch
Pilates Teacher
The year 2014 was a big year for me. I left the pharmaceutical company I had worked at for 25 years to embark on a complete career change and became a Modern Pilates trained instructor. With a BSc (HONS) in Biological Sciences and a wealth of experience in human diseases from my previous work, my passion for anatomy and sport could not be more fulfilled in this profession. Since qualifying I have attended various more specialist courses including Spinal Conditions, Hip & Hamstring, and most recently a Shoulder Course. In June 2015 I complete the ‘Pink Ribbon Program’ a Pilates course for women and men whom have recently undergone breast cancer surgery. My ambitions are to study more and start my Pilates equipment training in spring this year. Working with Lyn and the girls at Pure Balance Pilates has been such an amazing experience for me allowing me to develop my teaching skills, work at this fabulous studio, and feel part of a passionate team delivering a great service to local Pilates enthusiasts.

INDUCTION SESSIONS
Prior to commencing classes at Pure Balance, all students attend a 1:1 assessment with myself, studio director, during which a thorough health history is obtained, including details of any current physical therapy that the student is receiving. A postural assessment is then completed followed by an introduction to the Pure Balance Pilates method and foundation principles.
As a result of the information obtained during this assessment, students are placed in an appropriate class according to thier individual health, ability and fitness level.

CLASSES
During classes students are taught Pilates exercises appropriate to thier individual health and fitness level using small studio equipment where appropriate to either challenge or modify exercises where necessary.

PRIVATE STUDIO SESSIONS
During 1:1 sessions students benefit from an individually tailored session plan and are able to use large studio equipment as well as matwork exercises. Students will also be given a session plan to undertake at home in between 1:1 sessions in order to enhance thier learning and understanding.
