Intermediate Pilates

All classes taught by an experienced retired Physiotherapist who has undertaken additional training in Pilates instruction.
All participants have an initial 1:1 consultation lasting 45-60 mins when any relevant medical conditions will be discussed. This will be followed by an assessment of your posture, alignment and core stability. You will be told which areas you need to concentrate on and will be taught neutral spine position and how to engage your centre. The cost for the consultation is £30 but you get a reduction of £3 for each week remaining in the current course. You will be advised which class would be the most suitable for your level.
All classes are predominantly mat work exercises with some standing exercises and stretches.

If you pay for the course in advance it will be £42 for a 6 week course. (The courses vary in length). This will reserve your place. No refunds for classes not attended except in exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the instructor. You can pay £10 weekly if places are available. Max 10 people. Mats are provided if you don’t have your own.

Frances Jones Pilates

I am a retired chartered physiotherapist with over 40 years experience. I have done additional training with the APPI to allow me to teach Pilates. I used Pilates a lot in my work as a physiotherapist in the NHS and private practice.

I have been teaching Pilates in Brighouse since 2003.

Pilates is a form of exercise which targets the stability muscles predominantly around the pelvis and spine. These are often known as the 'core' muscles because they are closest to the centre of the body. It is often recommended by health professionals for people who suffer with spinal problems.
The type of Pilates I teach is clinical Pilates. This makes it particularly suitable for people with back pain and other musculoskeletal problems. The classes are always small (max 8 if everyone in the class is a beginner). There are many exercises most of which are done on the floor. Each exercise has several levels so each individual can work at a level suitable for them. We also do gym ball, foam roller or resistance band class. I provide all the equipment necessary.

I run classes to suit all ages and abilities and see everyone on an individual basis before they commence Pilates. This is to find out more about any injuries or conditions they may have to identify their individual needs. I also assess their posture, alignment and core strength. During this initial consultation I make sure that the client is contracting their core muscles correctly.

I also provide personal training in Pilates in clients own homes.
